0035. Mitochondrial uncoupling contributes to fever in sepsis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction The major sources of body heat production are muscle activity, chemical reactions involving ATP synthesis and usage, coupled (oxidative phosphorylation) and uncoupled (proton leak) mitochondrial respiration. The cause of fever associated with sepsis has not been elucidated, particularly in sedated, ventilated patients who neither perform much voluntary skeletal muscle activity nor shiver.

The Effect of Uncoupling Protein Polymorphisms on Growth, Breeding Value of Growth and Reproductive Traits in the Fars Indigenous Chicken
The avianuncoupling protein (avUCP) is a member of the mitochondrial transporter superfamily that uncouples proton entry in the mitochondrial matrix from ATP synthesis. The polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method was used to estimate the allele and genotype frequencies of the UCP/HhaI polymorphisms and to determine associations between these polymorp...

Introduction: The effect of regular exercise in decreasing the incidence of heart diseases is well known. The abuse of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) has been associated with cardiovascular disorders. Uncoupling proteins (UCPs) transport protons across the inner mitochondrial membrane thereby proton gradient can be diminished by the action of UCPs. This process will result in the uncoupl...
متن کاملTemporal increase of platelet mitochondrial respiration is negatively associated with clinical outcome in patients with sepsis
INTRODUCTION Mitochondrial dysfunction has been suggested as a contributing factor to the pathogenesis of sepsis-induced multiple organ failure. Also, restoration of mitochondrial function, known as mitochondrial biogenesis, has been implicated as a key factor for the recovery of organ function in patients with sepsis. Here we investigated temporal changes in platelet mitochondrial respiratory ...

متن کاملSilencing of uncoupling protein 2 by small interfering RNA aggravates mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiomyocytes under septic conditions
Uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2) regulates the production of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cellular energy transduction under physiological or pathological conditions. In this study, we aimed to determine whether mitochondrial UCP2 plays a protective role in cardiomyocytes under septic conditions. In order to mimic the septic condition, rat embryonic cardiomyoblast-derived H9C2 cel...
